It’s the start of a new month and that means Camp NaNoWriMo has ended for the moment. Yours truly was able to reach 50k words. While I didn’t exactly finish writing the entire story, the plot did move to the third act where a lot of reveals and betrayals happen. I call it the more exciting part of this story in particular.
Saying, I won’t go back and look at what I wrote. Instead, I’ll keep writing at my own space towards the finish. Sue to the original draft, I have a lot of it already prepared. For the most part, the last section of the story has been written and set in stone. Some of the events might change but the results will be the same.
New stuff is starting this month. Not only did I start school again (well it’s a certification program), I also plan to post 3x a week. It’s a lot that I’m putting on my plate but I think I can manage.
Mondays, I plan to post some helpful tips on world building, helpful websites, among other stuff. Wednesdays will be for writing prompts. The post won’t be super long. The purpose for this is to get me to write different sort of scenarios and genres. It will be a good learning experience. Lastly, Fridays will stay the same. The posts will mostly be about progress, exciting news, etc.
I will start the new schedule the following week. It’s going to be tough starting it out but I’ll manage to do it.
For those who finished all 50k words for Camp NaNoWriMo, congratulations! For those who didn’t, congratulations as well! Taking the time and effort says a lot about you. For that I applaud you.
It’s not really a secret – I think – that I haven’t been reading as much as I should. However, that has changed. I didn’t make any New Year’s Resolution or anything like that. My goal, as ever, is to keep writing and working on my books. Perhaps its because I hadn’t found a book that I really liked or sucked me in but good news is that I found some. Well, two to be exact.
It’s not like I went out to buy any new books. I had bought them before (a few months ago) and only now got to read them. Turns out, it was a good idea to look through my kindle and bookcase. Now, I won’t go into a review of each book but I would just like to say that I am proud of myself. I managed to finish two books in less than two weeks.
That still doesn’t beat my record of reading four books over two days but I think it’s progress. Besides, who doesn’t need a small pat on the back once in a while? I hope to continue my streak of reading and I’m currently working towards reading a third book this year. I don’t want to make it my goal to read every book on my kindle and the four books I recently bought at half-price books but I do intend to read a lot more than I have.
I’ve mentioned that I had stopped reading because I had spent all my undergraduate years reading for school and it took the fun out of it. Or maybe I didn’t but that’s the case. Yes, I know. Its a poor excuse. However, I do plan on reading those four paperbacks that I bought and more of the books on my kindle. While it won’t be a goal, it’ll be somewhat similar. I want to form a habit of sort and if I treat reading like something that I have to do then it won’t be fun and I won’t follow through.
Plus, I told my concerned BF that ‘No, I’m not planning to stop working on my books. I’m doing research.’ Reading is research. Because, these authors are published and if I can absorb their techniques into my own writing then they’re doing something right and I want to be part of that.
On top of it all, I forgot how fun it was to read. Scary, right? I don’t use reading as an escape, not really. It’s more like exploring new worlds and meeting new people. It’s amazing and I’m glad I got back into it again. I have high hopes of getting back into reading a lot more than I have.
Wish me luck.
P.S. The books I read are: The Keepers (Alchemy Series) by Donna Augustine and Blood Blade (Skinners) by Marcus Pelegrimas
For a long while, actually four years ago, I started writing this story on the side that I titled Crimson Queen. Sure with college and the writing classes and work, I could only get write so much. My attention was in my other novel and let’s just say that Crimson Queen wasn’t part of my priority list for the past four years. It also didn’t help that I took a break from writing . . . but enough of that.
I would like to officially announce that I have finally finished the last chapter for Crimson Queen. I might include an epilogue but I’m still debating on that. Sure it took me the entire summer to write one chapter but I wanted to do this story justice. Somehow, I couldn’t just type it up and be done with it. I gave this chapter a lot of thought because I wanted to get it right. I could have edited it later and revised but, in this case, I wanted to get it done as perfectly as I could have possible written it.
There’s a huge chance my editor/beta reader/fellow wattpad member will have me add a few things but that’s okay. The greatest part about today is that I didn’t quit. I could have permanently put the story in hiatus but I couldn’t do that to my characters. They would just pop up in my head before bed or when I was working on some other things.
Now I have to think if I want to publish this story. It’s a novella length story but I could make it into a larger piece. There’s so many things that I have to think about but it wouldn’t be possible if the last chapter hadn’t been written. I think today is the start of a very good day.
P.S. On the picture . . . yeah, I don’t think I should be modest right now.
