Early Year Accomplishments

318093a6c0732513e5aac1dba5fd352cIt’s not really a secret – I think – that I haven’t been reading as much as I should. However, that has changed. I didn’t make any New Year’s Resolution or anything like that. My goal, as ever, is to keep writing and working on my books. Perhaps its because I hadn’t found a book that I really liked or sucked me in but good news is that I found some. Well, two to be exact.

It’s not like I went out to buy any new books. I had bought them before (a few months ago) and only now got to read them. Turns out, it was a good idea to look through my kindle and bookcase. Now, I won’t go into a review of each book but I would just like to say that I am proud of myself. I managed to finish two books in less than two weeks.

That still doesn’t beat my record of reading four books over two days but I think it’s progress. Besides, who doesn’t need a small pat on the back once in a while? I hope to continue my streak of reading and I’m currently working towards reading a third book this year. I don’t want to make it my goal to read every book on my kindle and the four books I recently bought at half-price books but I do intend to read a lot more than I have.

I’ve mentioned that I had stopped reading because I had spent all my undergraduate years reading for school and it took the fun out of it. Or maybe I didn’t but that’s the case. Yes, I know. Its a poor excuse. However, I do plan on reading those four paperbacks that I bought and more of the books on my kindle. While it won’t be a goal, it’ll be somewhat similar. I want to form a habit of sort and if I treat reading like something that I have to do then it won’t be fun and I won’t follow through.

Plus, I told my concerned BF that ‘No, I’m not planning to stop working on my books. I’m doing research.’ Reading is research. Because, these authors are published and if I can absorb their techniques into my own writing then they’re doing something right and I want to be part of that.

On top of it all, I forgot how fun it was to read. Scary, right? I don’t use reading as an escape, not really. It’s more like exploring new worlds and meeting new people. It’s amazing and I’m glad I got back into it again. I have high hopes of getting back into reading a lot more than I have.

Wish me luck.

P.S. The books I read are: The Keepers (Alchemy Series) by Donna Augustine and Blood Blade (Skinners) by Marcus Pelegrimas

And So It Begins

The new year has been great until recently because I have to deal with a huge inconveiance. For the most part with going back to work and moving back to my place, I’ve been busy and I haven&#…

It’s Here!

I know I have been AWOL for a few days but my review has been posted! You can read it here. It’s not the greatest review but I think it is a start. The page looks so pretty though with all the screenshots.

Basically, I’m a content writer for ANDi so, I’ll be playing games and reviewing them which also counts as writing. I think this would be a good for me to expand my horizon on more than just writing a blog or my own stories. At least I can say that I can put this down on my resume.

For the most part, I have been reading over stories for my beta readers and also helping a friend on his own story. It’s not like I’m ignoring my own stories but sometimes I need a change of pace and a break.

Speaking of breaks, as of next week, I’ll be going on my Christmas break so I won’t be blogging. One of those reasons is because, yes I need a break, and the other because my WiFi back home is virtually non-existent and it’ll be hard for me to get on the web. I’ll probably start back up the first week of January.

With that in mind,

Happy Holidays!

Trial and Error

With everything winding down (at work), I’ve been able to get a few more things done. It’s mostly got to do with the fact that I’m not as tired from my day job like before.

So, not only have I officially submitted my review for the game I mentioned earlier, I was welcomed aboard. I got my own wordpress login for the website and, although I have to complete my profile, I feel like I’m part of the team already.

On another note, there’s one story that I have always been going back to. At first, I wrote it as a short story twice. Each version has always been different. But the idea has always stayed with me.

This is my second science fiction story that I have. Its futuristic in nature, plus mutated beasts, and a bit apocalyptic in nature. I have the characters created and the world. I do have most of the plot figured out and yet, the execution has always been odd. I’ve written it time and time again and it still doesn’t fit.
I think it’s because the story deals with heavy issues – that I believe to be heavy – and so I want to portray these issues correctly. My inability to do so has, somewhat, annoyed me and, which is why, the story hasn’t really gone anywhere.

Nevertheless, I managed to write about two pages of this story. It’s not the greatest and even now, I’m trying to convince myself that I just need to write and not worry about how it sounds like. You would think with NaNoWriMo I would be better at this but its still hard.

In the meantime, I will be editing stories to try to appease my inner editor so she can let me write in peace.

Submission

(Talking about my own work 😉 )

I’ve sent out my review for a mobile game. I’m not sure if I can say much about it but I won’t risk it. Honestly, I don’t know how well I did. I’ve never really had to review a mobile game before but it can’t be too different from reviewing a book, right?

I did ask for criticism so that will definitely help out in the future. I’m hopeful. If it doesn’t work out, at least I can say I tried. That’s all anyone can say.

It’s not so bad really. This opportunity let’s me do two things that I like: playing games and writing. I couldn’t ask for more.
